Anchored In Truth

Psalm 62:6 is a scripture that reminds us to remain steadfast and immovable in life’s difficult circumstances. This scripture allows individuals to become anchored in the word of God. The word anchor means safety, stability, security, and support (Merriam-Webster, 2026). An anchor is used when a ship releases a metal object into the ocean floor, used oftentimes to safely secure the ship after docking. The anchor holds the ship in place, even keeping it from tossing and turning during horrific storms.

Just as the anchor holds, provides support, safety, firmness, and stability, it is symbolic to the Christian lifestyle. As individuals encounter life, it can bring on burdensome experiences, leaving them with a lack of resilience and well-being. We must hold onto life, hope, resilience, family, and faith by clinging to the anchored principles of truth.

The principles of truth are guided by three leading moral truths: character, tradition, and wisdom. Character is defined by who we are and what we choose to become. Our character is shaped early in life, when we build on values and traditions shaped by family, friends, and community members. In the same way, tradition is built upon ancestral history. Lastly, wisdom is the ability to make sound judgments with innate beliefs, laws, and moral reasoning. To remain anchored in our daily walk, we must seek to live a life that exemplifies unshakable faith, rooted in truth, wholeness, tradition, and service.
