Life in the good ole days was
great, or at least swell,
for the Cleavers in Beaverville,
the fathers in Bestville,
and Barnie n’em in the merry berry
sundown town where
hillbillies could have
armed standoffs with the
sheriff in the morning and
join him for a banjoing, jug-blowing
shindig that evening, but
the maintenance of that myth-making
required the martyrdom of
Harriette and Harry Moore,
who were sacrificed
one silent holy matrimonial night –
slain by priests adorned in
robes of whiteousness . . .
for the heresy
of equality.
