From the 24-hour cycle of one sunrise to the next, Earth’s 24 time zones each count on their rotation to bring us weather and a temperate atmosphere that never gets too warm or too cold to the 365-day journey around the sun. The celestial and terrestrial circles remain unbroken. The Thanksgiving season is incomplete without considering First Americans and their stories. The unbrokenness of the circle empowers Indigenous lives and beliefs.
Yet, in America, there is a longstanding break in the circle of health equity, which leaves many marginalized communities of color historically vulnerable. As we gather around Thanksgiving tables or pay homage to First Nation people’s complicated story of interactions with Europeans. November’s Health and Wellness Issue of Three-Fifths Magazine honors Native American tradition. We do this by convening a sharing circle to pass the feather of articles, essays, and information of clarity for closing the health equity circle to find the common ground, moving us beyond only identifying the problem but bringing about wholeness through a conversation toward finding solutions.
